Anybody know how to finger Music Box Dancer?
on: December 13, 2007, 03:04:36 PM
I started looking at it this week and the fingering is not very obvious, since both hands end up kind of in the same place.

I don't need note by note fingering, but would appreciate the general approach you would use to this one.  Keep each staff separate?  Or overlap wherever close?  I can see too many ways to do this one and am confused.

The score is about half way down this page, available in midi and pdf.

I don't know how to cut and paste from a pdf to here.  I also don't know if that is the best version of this piece, a lot of people have done it, but it's the only one I found for free.

Any advice would be appreciated, I've always liked this one and think I'm just getting to the skill level to be able to play it.

most of it is built on chords.  finger the stuff as if you were playing block chords.  for example, the first measure LH would be like a chord 54241242.  when the melody come in, the RH will be fingered 22124245.  play the last note of that measure (the C, with your thumb, so you can make it up to the high C with 5.

just look for the chords and you'll find good fingerings.  also look for another edition with fingering, or get a teacher!

hope it helps

Thanks, very helpful.

Yeah, I know I need a teacher.  The last one moved away, and I haven't found a replacement yet.
