Starting piano again after abscence
on: February 09, 2007, 08:00:41 PM
Hello,

I've been playing piano for about 5-6 years before I stopped for an entire year due to my mothers sickness.  She is all better now, and I would love to get back into playing piano.

I've started playing some new music again, but the only thing i'm playing on the piano is the notes.  I have completely forgotten every thing, such as what tempo, dynamics, 2/4th beats...

What should I do to revive my skills?

Start from scratch both technically and theorically
Start with very easy pieces with not much rhythm complexity and move gradually from there. In other words try to do what you've done those 5-6 years
Only that since you've already learned that this time it will take 1-2 months instead of 5-6 years. This will allows a very strong awakening without no missing landmarks or foundations at a fraction of the time it requires you to learn it on the first place

Well today I was playing, and it seems I can still play Moonlight Sonata very well, but with a few mistakes more than I would have in my prime. Weird.

Thanks again for the responses all.
