Just for fun facts, did you know his Etude 2/1 was written for a girl when he was 16? I'm surprised she didn't marry him on the spot.
Some of the etudes are at a manageable level (2/1 being the piece that people start off with, others starting with the preludes). His preludes are mostly equal in terms of difficulty, although there are some occasional ones which are much trickier.
His earlier works is quite modeled after Chopin, so those works may be easier to learn first. The later works are very difficult (just scan through the scores for 7 8 9 10th Sonatas, some of them are quite black).
You can also try his Poemes Op.32, No.1 and 2. His impromptus are quite dramatic in nature too, so I would also recommend learning those, such as Op.12 No.2.

Do you prefer hes more "romantic" compositions, or do you think his more "Experimental" compositions are better, both favoured and musically.
I personally prefer his earlier romantic works, etudes op.8 no.11 and op.2 no.1 and preludes. u?

scriabin's etude op 2 no 1 April 05, 2008, 11:27:30 AM by aewanko

well, I got this piece the other day and I wondered if you could offer any tips on it because I can't seem to maintain the speed well due to the arpeggiated and big chords.
Scriabin's a crazy man, I tell you!

[First Year Student Critique] Scriabin Op.2 No.1 and Prelude Op.11 IX July 24, 2007, 01:17:35 AM by mekohler

Im 24, been playing for 10 months. Have a Russian concert pianist teacher in NYC. Decided to record myself today and randomly played these 2 songs. They're both one take and I know I got some fudged up notes on the Op2. No.1. I think it sounds shitty, the piano sound itself as well as the dynamics. I dunno, maybe its the lack of professional recording. Anyway, comments and suggestions needed/welcome.

[Critique Please] Scriabin Op.2 No.1 and Prelude Op.11 IX July 24, 2007, 01:08:31 AM by mekohler

Hey, this is my first post. Been playing for 10 months, and taking lessons from a Russian concert pianist in NYC. I decided to record today after feeling like I keep sucking more. The recording quality is not ideal, and the piano sounds shitty with my mic and I'm not please with the recordings at all. Was looking for any comments or suggestions. In the Op.2 No.1 I know I mess up some notes, I was nervous. Bleh!

Scriabin - Etude Op. 2/1 September 23, 2005, 03:14:48 PM by quantum

Recorded today. Piano was just tuned, and the hammers reshaped a bit. The scale is now more even between the bichord / trichord break. The tone changed a bit as a result, much more rounded. The una-corda doesn't have as pronounced effect as before, I'm guessing as there is less a difference between the compacted areas of felt on the hammers.

Enjoy!
