Italian Concerto technique April 10, 2009, 01:12:16 AM by alpacinator1

I'm learning the first movement of Bach's Italian Concerto. I've been playing the notes with a more staccato style, but my teacher disagrees and tells me to play it more legato. The sheet music we have doesn't specify this. WHich oen of us is right?

Italian Concerto August 13, 2007, 12:42:16 AM by BoliverAllmon

How hard is the Italian Concerto? I have played Bach's a minor P&F book II and his D Maj. book I as well as several smaller pieces. I want to attempt a large Bach piece and am leaning towards this. I don't have a large repertoire, but here is a list of what I consider my greater achievements.
Chopin Waltz no. 1 in E maj. the before mention Bach Beethoven Sonata F Maj. 2/1 1st mvt. Haydn Sonata D maj. (can't remember the number) 1st mvt. Shosty's PC 2 1st mvt.
Do you think it is possible to learn without taking years?

I need to prepare a bach piece for an audition in a few months, and have a number of candidates: a P+F english suite no.2 prelude italian concerto 1st mvt fantasia in c minor 1st mvt of one of the sonatas. I do like the italian concerto, but haven't played through it yet. How difficult is it? how does it compare to the english suite above? Thanks in advance

Bach's Italian Concerto May 11, 2007, 05:05:13 AM by uncle_trapspringer

Hello, this is my first post, though I've been lurking around the forums for a while. I'll be sixteen in a couple of months and have been playing for about two years and four months. Anyway, recently my piano teacher had given me Bach's Italian Concerto in hopes that I will be able to perform it at the Southern Californian Junior Bach Festival in May of next year, and also at the Bach Complete Works recital October of Next year. My teacher is confident that with dedication, which I am willing to give, I will be able to play it for next year, although her teacher is skeptical. I've had the piece for almost a week now, and have the first page of the first movement almost done, but I haven't had much time to practice between school and homework. But with summer approaching, I plan to practice a couple hour a day so that I will have sufficient practice with this piece as well as my others. Sp far, the piece has been somewhat complicated, though not impossible, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestion that might make learning it a little easier?
Thank you in advance, -J. Queen

"I was in Poland the past summer to give 2 concerts. At the last minute they requested some Chopin, which I had not brought with me. So, I google-searched for classical downloads and found your site. I was able to print out excellent editions of the pieces I needed within minutes. To find the scores locally would have been inpossible as it was a smaller town, the nearest music store 45 minutes away."

"Piano Street has been a wonderful tool to me as both a pianist and a piano teacher. I can browse the collection for pieces I want to play and/or have my students play. The difficulty rating system that Piano Street uses enables me to search by difficulty level for pieces at my students' various playing levels. It is helpful that many of the scores include an audio clip of the piece being played. I have recommended to my advanced students that they also join Piano Street since getting sheet music from there is a much less expensive alternative to ordering and paying for the music.
