Beethoven Pathetique September 12, 2009, 10:17:52 PM by pianist7

My piano teacher says to hit the opening Cm chord with "weight," not force or percussion. Your takes? I think playing with force is more powerful and suprising the listeners.

Beethoven - Pathétique Sonata (complete) August 23, 2009, 05:36:49 AM by lmpianist

I first learned this piece about 10 years ago but was recently inspired to resuscitate it, which doesn't happen very often with me and old pieces... anyway, I thought I would share the result since I was fairly satisfied with it, especially the third movement.

Question about Pathetique 1st movement August 10, 2009, 01:18:58 AM by mrtom82
|
I've been working on the 1st movement and I'm a little confused about the bass clef on the allegro part. The first bar has 8th notes then the second bar has what looks like 8th notes but they aren't solid, they look like half notes. Right now, I'm practicing it as if each hand is playing quater notes. Is this the right?

'Pathetique' sonata May 05, 2009, 09:26:08 PM by worov

Hi everybody !
I'm currently working on the 'Pathetique' sonata by Beethoven. Very beautiful piece. I like it a lot.
In the first movement, in the bars 174, 182, 184 and 186, the right hand plays a C-E flat chord and trills with E flat and F. So I have to play the chord with 1 and 3 and to trill with 3 and 4, or 3 or 5, which is very hard for me. I think 3 and 5 would be more comfortable. To those who have played this piece, what fingering do you use ?
I need to develop finger independance.
How to develop finger independance ? I have worked some Bach two-part inventions : no. 1, 2,3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14. But they don't seem to be very useful for this particular passage.
Any tips ?

Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata mvt. III April 28, 2009, 09:30:24 AM by cleaning_up_so_well

Hey everyone, I'm a grade 8 (Australian/A.M.E.B) standard player, and have been learning Beethoven's Pathetique sonata mvt III for a bit over a month now. I have all of the notation correct and my fingering in acceptable too. Just wondering if anybody has any advice on playing this piece well, or with more passion (but still lightly obvioulsly). This piece is very enjoyable to play. If any body wants to share prior experiences with playing this piece, or any Beethoven sonata, feel free to post here.
Thanks heaps, Sean

rondo 'pathétique' sonata August 24, 2008, 09:16:40 AM by beethoven_fan

Hi, everyone !
Sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker.
I'm currently working on the 'Pathétique' sonata by Beethoven, Opus 13. In the rondo, near the end, at bar 182 and next, the right hand plays triplets and the left hand plays quavers. I don't succed in doing this. Any tips on this passage ? That's first time I encounter that kind of diffuculty and I have no teacher to ask to help me. Thanks in advance.

"I was in Poland the past summer to give 2 concerts. At the last minute they requested some Chopin, which I had not brought with me. So, I google-searched for classical downloads and found your site. I was able to print out excellent editions of the pieces I needed within minutes. To find the scores locally would have been inpossible as it was a smaller town, the nearest music store 45 minutes away."

"Piano Street has been a wonderful tool to me as both a pianist and a piano teacher. I can browse the collection for pieces I want to play and/or have my students play. The difficulty rating system that Piano Street uses enables me to search by difficulty level for pieces at my students' various playing levels. It is helpful that many of the scores include an audio clip of the piece being played. I have recommended to my advanced students that they also join Piano Street since getting sheet music from there is a much less expensive alternative to ordering and paying for the music.
