Rach Prelude Op.23 No.5 tension, hand hurts February 29, 2008, 04:53:20 PM by rchmnnffbelle
|
I've been having problem with my hand/wrist hurting when I play, mostly with my right hand, but some with my left. It happens in measures 17-20 and 72-79. I try to relax but it's kind of hard with it having a lot of fast chords. My teacher wants me to bring it up to speed but that just makes it worse. I've talked to several people about it and they just say to find some place to relax even if it is just for a split second. The problem is, I can't find a place to relax, by time I get to the ending I can barely finish it because of tension, I don't know how to get rid of it, I've tried. I don't push myself when my hand hurts because I don't want to damage my hand. I also have a competition coming up within a month. Does anyone, even if you haven't played the song have any advice about what I should do to relax?

Rach Prelude Op. 23 No. 5 Fingering December 30, 2007, 02:20:35 PM by sissco
|
Hi there! Long time no post. Can somebody help me with the fingering on page 2 of this prelude? I am talking about the right hand in the measures 17 to 20. Can I play this like 1,3,5-5-1,5-5 (measure 18) or legato like 1,3,4-5-1,4-5?
Thanks

is this piece enough?? December 29, 2007, 08:15:31 PM by _chops
|
Im going to search for music collage in stockholm, and i schould have three pieces; one classical, one romantic and one modern. I think of playing: - kabalevsky sonate n. 3 op. 46 (the first allegro movement) - rachmaninov prelude g minor op. 23(?) - beethoven sonate third movement on the moonlight or pastoral
but i wonder if the prelude is ok? or should i choose a larger piece?
thanx!

Prelude Op.23 No.5 -- Rachmaninoff December 02, 2007, 02:20:52 AM by escort

A long while back I posted a horrendous recording of this up here... Anyway, for kicks, I thought I'd bring it back, and with some different interpretations suggested to me by my current instructor, as well as access to a better mic/piano, I've made this recording. It still has MUCH room for improvement, but that's another of reasons I'm posting it here: Your comments/criticisms are always welcome (also, my apologies for posting two different versions of a piece that's only been posted about 8 thousand times on this site).

Rach's Prelude in g minor August 24, 2007, 08:04:16 PM by lagin

Okay, so here's the deal. I posted a recording of Rach's g - prelude 5 weeks ago, and promised everyone that I would post it again when I was done working on it. A month after I posted it I did my exam and played it. It went pretty well, though it never was 100% under my fingers. Then I took a week off from piano almost entirely, and am just now posting the finished product. HOWEVER, since I took that week off, I'm all rusty again. So I was debating, do I put up an okay performance of it from a week or two before my exam, or do I put up a rusty performance of it after my exam (which i just recorded ). I decided to put up the "after" one because a couple days before my exam my teacher changed a bunch of stuff, so I feel like the rusty one is more true to the interpretation we were aiming for even if it's a bit slower and the notes lack accuracy a bit more than before.
Part 1. http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/laginn/?action=view¤t=MVI_0137.flv Part 2. (I accidentally deleted the second half and had to go back and refilm it so I noticed that it's a tad bit faster (maybe one or two clicks on the metronome) than tempo 1 in the first file. Sorry about that! I don't feel like refilming it again, though, and this tempo IS closer to the original, so I could just refilm the first part faster, but it would take a very long time to upload, so I'm just going to leave it. I hope you guys don't mind! http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/laginn/?action=view¤t=MVI_0127.flv
P.S. if you leave a comment that you want me, personally, to read, please pm me and let me know because I'm afraid I'm going to be rather busy over this next week and then I'm off to university, so I might not see it. But if you pm me, it will show up in my emails and I'll know to look here. Thanks guys!
P.P.S. I'm thinking of keeping this piece at university and continuing to work on it because even though my exam is over, I feel like I could still really improve my accuracy - though it did go much better in the exam than in these 'rusty' videos.

Rachmaninoff's Prelude op. 23 no. 5, yes, in g minor July 18, 2007, 11:33:59 PM by lagin

Okay, well I'm pretty annoyed that some the the dramatic dynamics I put into this come out as ALL MF!!! on the lovely old school recording device I have. However, if you'ld like to have a listen regardless and have any suggestions other than hit the right notes (I have a few pretty obvious blunders), that would be great. And I have some questions:
1. Do you think it needs to go faster than this? I know there are some wickedly fast recordings out there, but is this an appropriate tempo?
2. On a scale of 1 - 10, from what you can make out despite the lack of dynamic contrast due to the camera, (1 being, oh my...you probably shouldn't even be looking at this piece let alone playing it, and 10 being, you could totally pull that off in an exam setting), where do you think I am sitting at the moment? http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/laginn/?action=view¤t=5bb0a41a.flv
Out of all my repertoire this piece is putting up the most of a fight. Also, it's only the first section and the middle section. The last part is technically/musically where the first part is so I'm not going to bother making a separate recording and loading it up since my camera only takes 3 minute recordings.
And just for the record, this IS a work in progress. I have another month before it needs to be finished.

Rachmaninoff Prelude in G Minor Op.23 No. 5 June 03, 2007, 05:19:06 PM by silyaznfoo

I'm currently working on this piece, and there are a few places I have trouble. The first one is in the top voice in measures 18 & 19, I have a handspan of one octave and it is difficult to play the correct notes clearly and quickly. The next part is in bringing out the middle voice from measures 42-47. And finally, the jumps in the coda starting from measure 72, because by that time my hands are fairly fatigued. Does anybody have any tips on any of these three parts? Any help is appreciated.
