xx New excersises
August 20, 2008, 06:31:50 PM by pianisten1989

Hi

I've just (almost) finished Czerny op 377, 40 daily excersises.
My question is: What is good to begin with next? I've thought about both Czerny's 160 excersises in 8 bars (or something like that) and Brahms 51 excersises.
Are those any good, or have any of you got any better suggestions? Not Hanon though! It didn't help me at all...

xx Brahms 51 exercises

Hi,
I want to ask about those exercises. Are they just mechanical exercises like Hanon, or they are etudes, in which they should be played musically too ? And are they important to develop technique ??

xx Brahms 51 Excercises
December 06, 2006, 12:23:52 PM by cloches_de_geneve

Hi Everyone,

In reviewing finger-excersise books to keep my fingers in shape, I recently came across the 51 excercises by Brahms. I have volume 1, containing excersices from 1 to 25. It is impossible to play 25 (let alone 51) excersises every day, at least to me! Rather, my goal is to pick a small selection, up to 10 excersices, which I can repeat with reasoable regularity.

Is anybody familiar with the Brahms excersises? If so, which ones did you find particularly useful for aquiring finger strength, independence and mobility? Put in terms of the 20/80 rule: Which 20% of the excersises cover 80% (or at least a big part) of what is to be gained by the exercises?

Thanks.

xx Brahms 51 Recording

Does anyone else find it completely absurd that Biret has recorded the Brahms 51?  I wonder if there is a recording of the Hanon exercises somewhere...

hey all. i'm trying to work on the brahms exercises and i'm already stuck on the first one. it's not because of the rhythms but my problem is in the fingering. how are they supposed to be fingered? it can't be just one pattern to do all of it of course. could anyone help me on this?

i read a book once, i can't remember what it was, that suggested playing brahms's 53 exercises...it is 53 isn't it, or something like that...
just wondering what others thought of them? cos i'm sick to death of hanon cos it's done bugger all for my technique...
