César Franck - Harmonium Pieces (L'Organiste)
LâOrganiste volume 1 is an unfinished collection of 59 harmonium pieces. Franck had received an order from the Parisian publisher Enoch to write an album for the harmonium containing pieces in all major and minor keys. Unfortunately Franck passed away before the album was finished.
LâOrganiste volume 2 is a posthumously published collection of 30 pieces, some for organ and some for harmonium.
The present collection of 14 of the most characteristic harmonium pieces from LâOrganiste is based on the selection by W. Mohr for Edition Petersâ well known publication of short keyboard pieces by Franck.
They are beautiful and delicate little works. Despite their small format, most of them are more tricky than they sound like and can effectively be used for teaching purposes due to their great challenges in legato technique. |
