Felix Mendelssohn - Concertos

Mendelssohn wrote his first Concerto in 1831 during a visit to Munich, inspired to it by Delphine von Shauroth – “an artist, and very cultured, whom everyone adores," he wrote to his sister Fanny, at the same time assuring that he did not love her. "She composed a passage...that makes a startling effect," he wrote further, without specifying which one. Mendelssohn dedicated the concerto to Delphine, and premiered it himself in Munich with great success.
The Second Concerto, a somewhat more subdued work, was also premiered by the composer, at the 1837 Birmingham Festival.
