About Sergey Prokofiev's Two Sonatinas

The Two Sonatinas Op. 24 bridge the rather wide musical gap between the Piano Sonata No. 5 from 1923 and the Piano Sonata No. 6 from 1939-40. Full of musical richness and subtlety, they intermix lively and nervous themes with more pensive and somber, even cold passages. Making only moderate technical demands on the performer, as is typical for the Sonatina genre, they are among the few pieces of Prokofiev’s oeuvre that are accessible to the amateur player.
