Rebikov - Piano Music
Vladimir Rebikov
Vladimir Rebikov (1866-1920) combined late 19th-century romanticism and 20th-century techniques like the whole-tone scale and polytonality. His contributions have been minimized over the years, largely because of his paranoid delusions that Stravinsky, Debussy, and Scriabin, among others, stole his ideas to great success, leaving him bitter and penniless. He did begin using many innovative techniques before the others, but the charge that they stole from him is baseless. Still, the fact that he instigated many forms and techniques at the dawn of the 20th century should be recognized.
