Koji, i enjoyed your performances very much, but it's no.8 that really spoke to me. wonderful. Could you tell me how difficult you found these etudes? well, i'm sure you didn't find them difficult at all from the sound of it. But i would still like an insight to the technical difficulties of these pieces compared to Chopin's or Liszt's. They do sound rather similar. And what do you consider of them musically? Are they worth learning?

  I think Bortkiewicz's best music is easily the equal of Rachmaninoff, and like Rachmaninoff, while pianistic, is extremely difficult (at least I found it to be) but certainly a worthwhile composer to explore, and the Op. 15 etudes in particular are wonderful.

I'd agree here that Bortkiewicz's music is certainly worth exploring, including the less technically challenging but equally beautiful Lamentations and Consolations, and Hans Christen Andersen's Fairy Tales - charming character pieces that remind me of a mix of Chopin, Liszt, Scriabin, all put together. I recall listening to the recording of one of the Etudes by Moritz Rosenthal once. Breathtaking in the way he plays with light and shade. I think Koji should produce a CD of Bortkiewicz music real soon!

All very impressive performances. 15/8 is completely wonderful music, and has one me over in favor of Bortkiewicz.
