These people are my number one choice: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006HHU5A/qid=1135657154/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-2505660-5979941?n=507846&s=music&v=glance

These people are horrible! They mainly play turn of the century french impressionist music that requires little skill compared to, say, Bach.

I am suprised that they do not have Fur Elise arranged for 5 pianos.

They are responsible for the crapization of classical music.

Well, the CD entitled "Shacking up to Chopin" was pretty bad, and the "Making out to Mozart" CD was worse...

No theire not. These people are very good musicians and just because they play some wierd arraangement of 'Flight of the bumblebee' does not mean that they are scarring people off.  You can thank the a tonal crowd for scaring off a lot of people from classical music(sorry to offend anybody). But the Browns are giving what a lot of people want. Toned down clasical music that is easy to listen to. People these days do not have the patience you or me have...

As I said before... The Browns have enormous talent and do play standard repertoire(ofcourse they would). You probaly dont realise that recording like these give many people a first foray and interset in classical music. So please.. Dont bad mouth them. Because they are acually furtheing Classical Music!

None of them are particularly fabulous musicians, though none of them are bad.  I kinda like the west side story thing.

The ironic thing is that if the purpose of this CD is to draw people's interests over from other genres into classical, then for a lot of the type of crowd toward whom this recording is geared, the young age of these people and the attractiveness of a couple of the ladies on the cover would be more eye-catching than the promises of the music.  ;) Hypothetically, the "hot girls playing piano?! I guess classical ain't so bad after all" crowd would tend to be larger than the "I was drawn into classical music by this recording after tens of thousands of better recordings and better arguments for listening to it failed to convince me, and I have no idea why" crowd. The sad truth is that neither crowd would be very large. If this CD was trying to make classical into pop, then it would fall flat on its face.

Precisely. The only people that are going to look at this are going to be people that are already into classical.

Why do the Browns bother you?  Because some of their success is due to a gimmick?  Well - so what?  If people listen who otherwise wouldn't, what's the harm?  It isn't like they're doing orchestral arrangements of the Sex Pistols, or something.

orchestral arrangements of the Sex Pistols, or something.

That would actually be interesting if you used the same style of Orchestra + Piano as Messiaen's Osieaux Exotiques.

Don't you have something better to do than impersonate me?  And it's not like you're even trying; everyone here who knows me also knows that you're not me, and anyone who doesn't know me thinks you're an idiot and doesn't get the connection between us.

I don't get it lol, do they take these pieces and arrange them for four people or something? Or are each of them playing solo piano pieces?  Why is everyone flaming them, they're good...

From the video game pianist's site:

Quote
The Video Game Pianist is dedicated to promote and popularize video game music. By performing and recording video game music, VGP increases people's awareness of the music of Super Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy, Halo 2, and more.

VGP's second goal is to enhance the image of the piano and to make the piano a more mainstream instrument. This site is geared towards mainstream culture. In other words, the intended audience is not geared towards piano aficionados or classical music lovers, but rather for pop music lovers. Currently, the piano is far from being mainstream. When comparing the piano to singing, guitar, and percussion, the latter three are much more mainstream than the piano.

VGP's third goal is to popularize classical music by performing video game music. He believes that video game music will build a bridge that will link the pop music world with the classical music world. The dilemma in today's society is this: most people who like classical music hate pop music, because they are arrogant. They think classical music is the best music in the world. On the other hand, people who like pop music hate classical music because they think classical music is boring. Video game music will build a bridge between the pop music world and the classical music world because video game music is performed on classical instruments, such as a piano or a full orchestra. When people listen to video game music, they will realize that the music is performed by classical instruments. Additionally, they will realize that pianos and orchestras perform classical music as well as video game music, and that will get people interested in classical music!

That was probably the most hilarious thing i've read today. I especially like his reasoning in the third part. So, pop-lovers will begin to love classical because they'll realise that videogame music is played on classical instruments?

I give you some of  his recordings:

29 Windows XP Shut Down Sound Effect on Piano
30 Improvisation on the Windows XP Shut Down Sound Effect
31 Improvisation on the Intel Theme
Belles journées, souris du temps,
vous rongez peu à peu ma vie.
Dieu! Je vais avoir vingt-huit ans...
Et mal vécus, à mon envie.

I was just showing that video of him to a friend of mine - a videogame fanatic - yesterday.  His mouth dropped open.

Honestly, I have respect for damned near any musician who can think of some hook to get some attention.  I mean, what's the alternative?  A job as a file clerk?

If the video game pianist can make some money playing the piano, more power to him.

Why do you hate him?

He is a very talented guy who is into classical music as much as he is VG music. Have you actually seen him play in a video? his technique is incredible.

Haha his technique is far from incredible. Very far. Also watch the vid of him playing the Pathetique 1st movement. His posture changes are hilarious. Can't say I like the guy.

For me it looks like Lang Lang is just playing for the sake of showing off. Looking at his "face-expressions" while playing it makes me wonder if he is actually faking. Also i find his sound quality and general music-making capabillity very poor. He was recently on tv playing a mozart piano concerto from a mozart anniversary concert (with chopin as encore hehe) wich was just horrible. My teacher told me he had to turn off the TV because of this performance. eugh

EDIT
I also saw the videogamepianists version of pathetique, wich i didnt like either :) Seems the link is gonw though...maybe he realized something  ::)

Yeah he took it off. Haha I just read his bio and mission statement and now I really don't like him.

"with the distinction of being one of the world's first young solo artists—if not the first—to be internationally recognized for the blindfolded performance of the classic Super Mario Brothers theme that has delighted over 40 million viewers on the Web."

Yeah, because there are just so many other people who blindfold themselves and play the Mario Brothers theme. What an accomplishment.

Oh he's not so bad; he plays OK and he is probably getting kids interested in piano. LOL I was doing this as a joke years ago, playing the music from arcade games like Ms. Pac Man and Super Cobra to amuse my friends and colleauges. But programming this "music" never occurred to me...
