Arabesque 1 (CAUTION: WORK IN PROGRESS)
on: January 16, 2006, 02:23:29 AM
I have been working on the piece Arabesque by Debussy.

I have only got the first page done, but I would like some feedback on how it sounds so far.

I know I slipped up a bit near the end.

Keep In mind, I am recording with a cheap mic, and a horrid upright piano.

Thanks

Imagine that I don't know this piece:

This does not sound like Debussy at all, it sounds very 'hard', sounds somewhat like Liszt on dope.

The end, indeed the slip is horrid

And like having a horrid upright and cheap mic is going to improve your playing, much more awareness of style and dynamics is needed

ways to improve it?

how do you recommend getting a more debussy like feel?

great work and enthusiasm so far!

I've given this piece of music much thought and it is currently a work in progress for me as well.

Your piano has character :)

Some suggestions:
I know you're just learning this and much of these suggestions will naturally fall into place without much thinking.

1. Less heavy on the left hand
2. The triplets need to sound much more flowy

You want to hear my horrid rendition:

click on the music player with the selection that says Debussy (third selection).

The music player doesn't always work on myspace so good luck with it.

I love this piece and can play it all day.  Keep going.  I can't wait to hear the next few versions of it.

Practice!

Violinist made a recording which you can set as an example, although there are some bits that are rough on the edges, but its OK.
