Hey Franz, I enjoyed your piece! To me, it has a very mysterious mood to it. Well done.

franz,
Simply wonderful. I enjoyed it. Though I would say you developed the piece with one single motif, I agree with allthumbs it evokes a more mysterious dark mood than a pastoral but its just subjective and i like the way you play the piano. I have great admiration for anybody that can make a piano sing. Good

If it is pastoral, it is like looking through the window at a bleak landscape on a grey day. If this is the idea, then the use of the repeated, plaintive upward phrase is a very effective way of expressing it. I always find the hard part about writing something with ONE idea, as opposed to two or three, is that unless minimalism is the chosen effect, (and nothing wrong with that, of course) it cannot be stretched out too long. I usually find myself compelled to introduce a contrasting idea.

But there are always exceptions to anything. Jarrett sometimes goes on for ages with one motif and the effect is not unpleasant, especially in his more recent recordings.

Let us hear more of your atmospheric creations.

franz, I haven't had a chance to listen to the recording yet because i am at work.

Have you managed to listen to Franz Liszts Pastorale or the primitive version in Album d'un Voyager.

Just in case you wanted further inspiration.

I have learned partorale from Annees de Pelerinage.

I agree with one single Motif, thats the tune that happened to me. Thanks for your nice comments.

I have not heard Keith Jarret nor did I try to write this composition in any style much less minimalitic or one single motif. The whole piece just happened to me and I started playing on the Piano and recorded my performance. In other words there is nothing forced about it. In retrospect one could say its one motif or its minimalistic but those words doest mean much to me. For me the musical piece itself is something and the characterization or classification of what that musical piece is completely different. But anyway thanks Ted for listening and your comments, I would definitely release more of my pieces that doent revolve around one motif.

I have not heard this piece before. But I am now really curious and I would definitely give it a listen. Thanks!

If you are interested, I can e-mail you both versions (from Annees de Pelerinage and also the early version of Album d'un Voyager). I can also e-mail you the fairly rare sheet music for the album d'un Voyager version.

Anyone who is interested give your e-mail address. Franz I couldn't see your address on the profile screen.
