Messiaen Regard X

Regard de līEsprit de joie

Being a really marvelous and very effective piano piece, this is also one of the regards that I often play as a solo piece. Of course there are some major difficulties to overcome here too, and one may notice that itīs not very often you overcome them all at the same time, especially not in live performances...  :)
But, as I said, once you know the piece,  as a solo piece itīs almost always a success. It is definetely worth adding to oneīs repertoire. And itīs rewarding to practise on too, because there are always things you can do better.  8)
The first piece by Messiaen that I learned, btw. A couple of years ago now.... but I still as mentioned practise on it from time to time.

I have downloaded all Regards and listen to them before sleeping. The more i listen to your recordings the more I like this music. They seem to be very esoteric to me. Very mysterious.  i think you have to live a long time with that music to understand what's going on there. Most interpretations of Messiaen I've heard scared me with bashing and brutality. Not so your's. I find that you know exactly how to put things in balance and know also exactly why you do it that way. A really thoughtful and careful Interpretation! Thanks for sharing this.

Hi ozzy,

The modern period is not my favorite genre to say the least.   But as I listened to your playing of this piece, I was struck by the artistry you bring to Messiaen's music.  That includes a big technique, insightful interpretation, a colorful tonal pallet,  rhythmic drive, and great variety of touch, mood and nuance.  Your performance was an impressive achievement to say the least.  Highest congratulations to you!

Great music, isn't it.

It is so clean it is unbelievable.  You better watch out, Joyce Hatto may take this next instead of Kim's.

What type of piano is this?  The sound is so pure and precise and the dampers are incredible!

All in very good taste.  Do some Sorabji too.
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

congratulations a million times!!!

this is a superb piece, extremely difficult and you played it marveously. i happen to know this piece (i played it in a recital) and i had so much trouble memorizing it, i actually never learned the exact notes (in the part with triplets "agrandisments asimetriques").
how old are you?
