Chopin Sonata #3, Ondine, Etincelles
on: May 11, 2006, 01:07:39 PM
First of all, I'm new member here though used to read these great forum since years.
I know there's a lot a lot of great pianists here, but after thinking twice, I encourage my self to post my recording to receive positive advice to improve my playing and recording technique as well. I love playing piano.
Sorry for only write the link to my recording since I already uploaded there and my internet connection is very low to re-upload directly here.
Also, I'm just at learning stage of recording piano, and my piano is an old Yamaha U-1.
For microphone, I'm using  old Sony Handycam.
And, sorry for my bad English .. and wrong notes ..

Here is the link (lowest is the latest recording) I think it shows improvement in recording quality, noise, dynamics etc :

- Sonata # 3 Op. 58 (Finale) - F. Chopin
https://rapidshare.de/files/18286032/Chop_Sonata_3-cvrt.wav.html
- Etincelles (Sparks) Op.36. No. 6 - M. Moszkowsky
https://rapidshare.de/files/19424195/Etinceles.mp3.html
- Clair De Lune - Claude Debussy
https://rapidshare.de/files/19653367/Clair_De_Lune.mp3.html
- Ondine From Gaspard De La Nuit - Maurice Ravel
https://rapidshare.de/files/19940266/ondine.mp3.html
- Pavane Pour Infante Defunte by Maurice Ravel
https://rapidshare.de/files/19981392/Pavane.mp3.html

Thanks in advance

I couldn't get the Chopin to play, some communication problem.
I've listened to Etincelles, Clair de Lune and Pavane so far. I think you sound more successful in the slow, lyrical pieces! Beautiful tone, and nice interpretations. You play them very simply, yet effective. You never indulge in self-consciousness, but rather let the music "speak for itself". I'm sure they could be more inspired, more heart-felt, more deeply understood; but that doesn't mean that you have any real shortcomings in these pieces. I enjoyed it!

The Etincelles is nice too, but I get the feeling that you are slightly inhibited, as if the rapid passages make you opt for carefulness, in order not to hit wrong notes. A little more daring, playfullness and humor, and I think it could be very good! Now, it's only good!:-)

Thanks a lot!
And you were so kind to also hear slow pieces to get wider picture of my playing.
Reg. Chopin Sonata, I think the problem was temporary since I already tested to download it
the format is in "compressed wav" (generated by windows sound recorder) anyway. I didn't have mp3 converter when uploading it.

Anyway, Noted your kind advice ....   :)

Tried to download the Pavane but there's something wrong with the link. I love this piece and have posted my own recording on Pianostreet as well; would be nice to hear someone else's interpretation of it.

faj, all files must be uploaded here as mp3.
I have now attached four of the files to your initial message but please convert the Chopin Sonata movement to mp3 and upload it yourself.

Thanks! :)

Thanks for being so kind to re-upload !
I already converted and uploaded the Chopin III Finale, but I couldn't put it in my initial message.

Btw, this Chopin recording is my earliest recoding, and dynamic from handycam was very bad (almost no dynamic) .
I don't know is it because volume of handycam was set too high or at that time I didn't set "wind=on" so it "auto gain"-ing small sound/decaying sound.

I liked the Moskowski -elegant playing -effortless and spirited playing -great encore piece -

I can't listen to Ravel nor Debussy -
When a search is in progress, something will be found.
