video editing software?
on: June 24, 2006, 08:53:38 PM
Ok, so today I received a DVD of myself playing at a recital.  I would like to share it with you to get feedback, but I do not know how to separate parts of it to upload.

I opened up the DVD on my computer, and the files are .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB format.  There are many .VOB files, each one randomly starting in the middle of each piece of the performance.

Is there any way to combine and cut these files and upload them?

thanks,
donjuan

It has limitations on what you can do on the trial software.A registration key is needed to get all the features it has...Wel hope that helps.

I have used a GUI that includes a lot of software that is used for transferring VOB's to AVI and then compressing it for smaller file size.  It's called Gordian Knot and you can get it here for free:

https://www.doom9.org/

Basically you need a program that can convert VOB's to AVI.  The program included in this suite is DGIindex and you can open multiple VOB's at a time and it will put them together and create a single video file.  You can also specify a start location and an end credit location and then tell it not to process the credits, etc so that only your performance is processed.  You then need to compress it (DGIindex only puts the files together, so you still have the DVD filesizes which are huge) and multiplex the audio back in.  Gordian Knot is the simplest program I know of that can do it all.  You just have to press a couple buttons and it does everything.  You will also need to download the DivX codec as well.

thanks.  However, I am having a hard time specifying a start location.  I understand how "set credits start" is setting the end location, but how can I tell it where to start?
