Schumann Davidsbundlertanze nr 10 - Balladenmassig, sehr rasch
on: November 26, 2006, 10:06:49 PM
I love Schumann a lot, still discovering new interesting music which surprises me. Like this one, Davidsbundlertanze Op. 6 nr. 10 (heft 2 nr. 1) which is such a nice little gem.
The left hand plays a 3/4 ballade rythm while there's a 6/8 counterrythm in the right hand. It's almost like an étude. Fast tempo. The result is a restless, passionate style which can only come from the hand of Schumann.
I'm still working on it, comments are appreciated.
Hope you enjoy
Lava.

I'm not a fan of Schumann in general, but this piece seems to be one of his better ones IMO. It sounds a bit uneven, and could be played with more passion, but then I don't know the piece, so I might be wrong. Good job overall!

It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.
A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

Hi lava,
First, I very much enjoyed your playing. You probably have a little work to do on evenness in a few places, but otherwise you have achieved fine fluidity in this piece overall. Nice job!
One characteristic of Schumann was his ability to come up with odd rhythmic patterns in both notation and effect, and this piece illustrates that well in its polyrhythms. Combining that with some innovative harmonies, he sometimes produced music which seemed ahead of its time. Although this is an early work (Op. 6), it has an unusual sound to it.
Schumann is not my favorite Romantic era composer. My problem has always been chosing works of his that I'll actually like. I've posted a handful of those on this board. Probably my next Schumann undertaking will either be the Ballades or the Gesange der Fruhe.
Thanks for posting this piece. Let me also commend you for seeking out and selecting lesser heard works.
