Recital Recording - Encore
on: March 06, 2007, 02:08:07 AM
Masters recital, 02.20.2007:

Encore:

Rachmaninoff Etude-Tableau in E-flat Major Op. 33, No. 6

*Yeah, so a week before the recital while in the audience of a colleague's recital I realized I hadn't prepared an encore for my recital... so this is what I came up with on a week's notice.  I was a bit fatigued after the second half (all etudes).

Comments appreciated!  :)

Edit: mp3 replaced

Yeah... if I had to do it over again I probably would've chosen a slower piece after such a progam.  But I think it still worked out ok.

I got the finished recording from the studio, so I replaced the mp3 on here.

I love your concept of this piece.
Thanks for posting that!

Oh man you play the really tough passages nice and fast  ;D

Not sure if I heard wrong, but at 57 seconds, the left hand sounded awfully low... when I played this about half a year ago I noticed like a month into practicing it that there's a treble clef there... lol not sure if you missed that too  8)  either way you killed that piece, specially after an entire recital, congrats.

That was an incredible fast study, and it sounds great!  I wish I could that!

Really nice playing. Not an easy job after a whole recital. I'm learning this etude right now.
In my opinion, I really like your idea of this etude. For me it is a bit to fast, and the ending is to 'short'. The last chord has to be short but this sounds as a staccato.
But, great playing.

Thanks!  Yes, there is much I would have liked to do better with this one.  Do a search for this piece in the audition room here and you will find a performance by me in 2005 that is more like I wanted it to come out.  I realized a week before this recital that I didn't have an encore, so this recording is the result of a week's preparation for that on top of the recital preparation.  I'm fairly satisfied with the results under those conditions.  In the future I will most likely opt for a slower encore after a program that tiring.

Edit: Found it...  :)

I just listened to the other recording in 2005, and is a WAY better. I really liked this performance! I got the idea you have, and you are doing really nice things. I hope I will play this etude like you did. (I have to play it in a concert Sunday)
Congrats!
