Sinding-Rustles of Spring
on: August 09, 2007, 11:41:26 PM
So one of my old piano teachers used to record all of his recitals. And he'd issue us students a cd of all of our stuff occasionally. I quit when I was about ten, so I don't have a lot of stuff, but this recording is from when I was 8... Hahahaha. I'm posting this pretty much for nostalgias sake... I dug up the cd today.... Hahahaha

I think it's great for an 8-year-old. We're so jaded by the YouTube prodigies that it's easy to forget about "normal" early progress. When I was a kid student in the 50s my dad had a tape recorder. I remember how he set it up at the back of my piano teacher's living room and recorded a concert I had prepared. He was a bit technically challenged and very carefully adjusted the volume throughout the session - when I played loud and the needle swung into the red he turned the recording volume down and when I played quietly and the needle didn't move, he turned the volume up so it would register...the result was rather bland. He had his advertising department press an LP out of it to distribute to relatives - really dates me I guess

I was a non-major piano student in college and my teacher refused to work with me on this piece. He said it was "pretty, but a piece of fluff." Isn't that horrible? I think it's beautiful. And I like your recording of it! Thanks for posting

It is a somewhat dated piece. It's one of the earlies pieces I remember my aunt playing - I think it was sort of a rite of passage back then, at least for female students--I say that because for some reason I never heard male students playing it??

That's awful... I can't conceive of someone saying something like that... I'm male... haha.

I say it because I experienced it. Note: I never said a male shouldn't or couldn't play it...

Does anyone have the sheet music PDF for this? I used to play it 60 years ago, and I want to re-learn it.
