'Karma' from The Day Before Tomorrow
on: April 18, 2008, 02:11:50 PM
This is one of my more recent compositions.  Feedback is highly appreciated.  For the record, I'm not trying to write music that is technically superb, just beautiful to listen to.

Much of my music is inspired by poetry I wrote over the last few years and this song is no exception.  Enjoy!

Karma

By James R. Cahall
2-28-2006

Tomorrow I start a life with no regrets
Why does it always seem so hard?
If I told you how I really felt
Would you still think of me the same?

Yet I fear I will not live to see another day.
Not as my whole, body, mind and soul
When a part of me clings to my shadows
That hide my scars, blood, tears and holes...

Sometimes I feel like I'm starting over
Not for the first time
Not like the last time
And it scares me more than it shows

But then I open my eyes to see you...

Not as the girl I first kissed on the dance floor
Not as the girl I sang to so long ago
Not as the girl I will profess my vows to
Not as the girl with whom I will grow old

But as the girl that saw right through me
As the girl that made me cry
As the girl that took the biggest chance
As the eternal soulmate in my life.

Tempted by thrills of man
We cannot be blamed for going astray
But must learn from past mistakes
To stand the test of time

It seems like Karma is against us
In a battle between our holes
Yet what war has done to our bodies
Cannot harm what love has done to our souls

Sometimes we feel like we're starting over
Not for the first time
Not for the last time
Together.
