does anyone have any advice for getting that billion mile per hour sixteenth note passage to speed in aufschwung? I love that song, and I love schumann, if only I could play that one part.

Use a circular arm motion and "throw" your hand around, slowly add finger action. Practice slowly before speeding up.

In addition to what ako is suggesting, play the notes as chords (ie a new chord for whenever your fingers go to new notes.)  Once you can cycle through that set of chords quickly and accurrately then start playing them as 16th's.  That's how I learnt the section.
