Staccato with pedal?
on: July 15, 2005, 09:13:50 AM
There are scores with staccato dots above the notes and with "pedal down" sign at the same time. As it is definitely impossible to play staccato with pedal, what does it mean?

When staccato and pedal is encountered, it means to play staccato anyway, producing a leggiero-like tone.
Fortune favours the musical.

Remember stacatto is a kind of attack, not a note duration thing.

My teacher says in some cases to use the peadl like in the schubert Improutus op.90 no.1 in the firsts couple of measures he says to use to use the pedal for a shade of clolor.I use it in a state piano competition  and one of my comments good use of the pedal on the staccto parts so i would say use it. on some parts. And others dont like in The moonlight sonata measure 47 dont use it.

your right stactto is an kind of attack.
