Anyone heard the Frederic Chiu - Prokofiev cycle?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has heard the Complete Solo Piano Music of Prokofiev with Frederic Chiu. It seems ok, but theres only one review on Amazon.

I believe it also includes the complete music for violin and piano.

If you don't think this is such a good buy, do you know where I could get a set of the complete sonatas, and other important works?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, I have this set.

Although he is not my favourite Prokofiev interpreter (e.g. Richter is more to my taste), my main reason to buy this set was that it was complete. In particular it was the only recording available (at the time, now there are others) that had Prokofiev's Juvenilia (almost unkown pieces - real gems - that Prokofiev composed in his teens).

It was also on sale 

Some of it I don't like, most of it is perfectly reasonable playing. If I was after particular pieces, I probably would look for other pianists rather than Chiu, but as a complete set I definitely recommend it

(I would say the same about Ashkenazy's complete Chopin - Ahskenazy is not my favourite Chopin interpreter, but at least now I have all of Chopin solo works).

Agreed, Chiu is probably not the greatest pianist, but I am always looking for complete sets, so I think this will do.

Boris Berman apparently was the first to record all of Prokofiev piano music (for Chandos).

Bernhard, it seems that the CDs for the two other sets you posted must be bought separately, and it is not an all-in-one package, but thanks anyway for the information...very interesting, as usual!
