faure ballade for piano and orchestra
on: July 28, 2005, 12:39:27 PM
just heard this yesterday on the radio for the first time.  really liked it.  has anyone else heard it or played it?
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

heard it once, live (a pianist played it in my home town), and i loved it, but i never saw the score. it didn't seem too difficult (technically, i mean), though.

The Ballade should be better known because it's great.  Sadly, some pianists believe it's not showy enough.

that piece is insanely hard... just putting some proper fingerings is a painful process. Let's not even talk about memory...

Thank you for bringing up this piece!  I don't know anything about it.  Now I have to hear it.  Is it enough piano to use in a concerto situation?

maybe not concerto (since it seems shorter), but just for variety.  an interesting program to pair maybe with other orchestral works.  just listen to some dvorak (whilst trying to listen to an old recording of godowsky!) and he has some unplayed stuff that is quite beautiful too.  listen at wnyc radio station, i think.
