on: August 05, 2005, 11:17:32 PM
I'm from Poland ... I go to 2 classes (from 6) in music high school. I was few achievements in play piano, but i am practising more smally and more smally :( Please judge dear users of the forum difficulty of my pieces :

A. Skriabin - Prelude 6  h-minor (no11op1)
W.A.Mozart - Sonata D-major (KV 284)
J.S.Bach - volume 1 - Prelude & Fuge 5 - D-major
(?)Czerny(?) - volume 1 - Etiude no11 (op740) (for left hand)

I am asking difficulties of my pieces for the reliable estimation and giving piece of advices for playing the method of these pieces (of sending of recordings of pieces executed perfectly, the piece of advice etc).

I am apologizing for my language, but only I began to learn.
I will be grateful for any piece of advices from your page.
I am greeting :

I wish I were authoritative enough to answer your questions, but . . .  I'm sorry.

Nice to hear from you.  Your English is entirely clear.   You should be proud your English is so good.

You seem like you have good skill, to even consider some of the selections.

I suggest a "for piano" version of Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze."  (Needs to be transposed for piano, but there are several out there.)

Your P+F in D is easy to play poorly,

But quite tricky to master...good luck...keep those #4 fingers smear free!

A. Skriabin - Prelude 6  h-minor (no11op1)
I think you mean prelude op. 11 no. 6 in B minor (instead of op. 1 no. 11) If so, grade 8.

W.A.Mozart - Sonata D-major (KV 284)
1st movement - Allegro  - grade 8
2nd movement – Rondeau en Polonaise - Andante – grade 6
3rd movement – grade 8

J.S.Bach - volume 1 - Prelude & Fuge 5 - D-major – grade 8

(?)Czerny(?) - volume 1 - Etiude no11 (op740) (for left hand)

Are you sure you mean Etude no. 11? I believe you mean no. 12 (for the flexibility of the left hand). If so, grade 7.

Etude no. 11 (readiness in changing the fingers) is grade 6.

All these grades are ABRSM and work like that:

Grade 1 – elementary
Grade 2 – late elementary

Grade 3 – early intermediate
Grade 4 – intermediate
Grade 5 – late intermediate

Grade 6 – early advanced
Grade 7 – advanced
Grade 8 – late advanced.

Grade 8 does not even start to touch the really difficult repertory for the piano, for instance, most of Chopin and Liszt works are way above grade 8.

And remember that difficulty is always subjective. ;)

Good luck!

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

While we are in on Scriabin, you don't know the difficulty of prelude No 11 in B major from Op11 ;D

O Greatest Authority ;D Bernhard, would you mind grading my repertory (partly still in the works)?

In more or less chronological order of being written,

J. S. Bach Prelude & Fuge no. 21 in B flat
L. v. Beethoven: Sonata op. 10 no. 1 in c minor, 1st movement
F. Schubert: Impromtu op. 90 no. 3 in G flat
R. Schumann: Knderszenen, no. 13: Der Dichter Spricht
J. Brahms: Scherzo in E flat minor (can't remember the numbers...  ::))
(I know many will scowl at this next one... ::)) F. Chopin: Etude op. 10 no. 12
F. Liszt: Transcendental etude no. 11
E. Grieg: Piano concerto in a minor, 1st movement
C. Debussy: Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum

Thanks!
