If up is the opposite of down,

Then what is the opposite endeavor to undertake than piano study

My brother is a chemical engineer, and I am a piano teacher....... ;D

i always thought it was the person who was tone deaf or fell asleep at concerts that was the opposite of musical (piano oriented).

or, could it be saxaphone players?  trombonists?  have you ever met one, and they think they're better than you because they can jam.  my bro, for instance, when he dutifully took his piano lessons (around the same time as i did) would make stuff up whereas i followed the notes.  then, he decided piano was too predictable for him, and he took up sax.

You can definately jam on the piano. On boogie woogie festivals we sometimes improvised with 10 hands on the piano.
