A method for adult starting the piano again ?
on: August 05, 2003, 12:24:21 AM
Hi everybody !

I would appreciate if somebody could give me the name of a good method that I could use to start the piano again...

I studied classical piano during fours years (when I was between 10 and 14). Then I "more or less" gave up... and now I am an old 41 years old guy... !  :-[

I would mainly like to improve "simultaneous reading and playing" (I am french and there is probably a better way to call what I am talking about... but I am sure you understand !). I have never been very good at that exercise and I know it is a serious handicap to make progess...

Thank you in advance for your suggestions !

Buy one of those books with easy transcriptions of arias of opera or transcriptions of known symphonies's parts. You will have them in your ears, they will help you to read and it will be not boring as if you tried music for children. I'm a piano teacher and that's the way I deal with adults. You can try playing those pieces you listened very much and love: love can help any defficiencies. I mean like some Chopin's nocturnes or waltzes-I reccomend Chopin's nocturnes op.15 no.3, and op. 72 no.1-, the second movement of Mozart's 21st concerto, of Chopin's preludes no. 4,7,20; there's some music for children that's not boring or childish, like Prokofieff's "Music for Children" op. 65, Schumann's "Album for the youth" and the Kabalevsky's sonatines. Khachaturian's music for children is gorgeus too,and interesting. I hope it helps ;)...
