I have a question regarding the chords that span way more than I can reach in this sonata (first movement). It is not musically pleasing to roll these chords and I am left with the only option to reduce it so that it is a chord with an octave span. How would I do it in a manner that is pleasing?
Or maybe just play it as an octave without the thirds or fifths of the chord?
I can't reach them either. Thalberg (according to Chopin) could play 10ths as easily as he (Chopin) could play octaves.
I would not be inclined to reduce a 10th to an octave as that would diminish the sound.
If i had to play a chord of say b flat d and f, i would personally play the b and the d together, followed by the f as quick as possible.
Possibly not correct, but that is what i would do.
