Jimmy Durante Question -- for Senior Citizens
on: November 10, 2005, 12:58:59 AM
This is strictly for senior citizens, I'm afraid, since younger persons probably don't know Jimmy Durante.

I remember listening to his radio show.  He was VERY funny!

I remember he used to play a honky-tonk piano and sing along with himself.

Then he would stop cold -- right in the middle of a phrase -- and shout -- "WHO STOLE MY SALAMI SANDWICH?"

Couple of questions.  Did anyone else like this guy?  And #2, did anyone else like his piano playing?  I know I did .

I believe he played his own piano, because I saw some old black-and-white footage of Jimmy doing a show.

But if he did not play his own piano, do you know who played it?

Was it a Steinway concert grand?  Or an Estonia?   Do very wealthy persons who own such pianos -- and write in to this forum boasting about them -- do they have their salami sandwiches stolen?  Do people in the Bill Gates income range enjoy salami sandwiches?  Or do they have their pate foi de gras sandwiches stolen, or possibly their Black Sea caviar sandwiches stolen?  Perhaps they have very expensive security systems in their homes, so that they can just eat their sandwiches in peace.  Pray for them.   [  :-)  ]

Jimmy Durante always ended his program -- "good night, Mrs. Calebash, wherever you are!"  This was never explained, but one imagined it must have been the lost "love of his life."

Anyone know?
