audition pieces
on: November 29, 2005, 03:10:20 AM
i am auditioning for a music academy and the audition requires me to play 2 different pieces that contrast in style.

my most refined pieces are as follows.

Fur Elise                                        Beethoven
Solfegettio                                    CPE Bach
Minuet in G (BWV 842)                  Bach
Little Funeral March (KV 453a)      Mozart
Bagetelle in A Minor (Op.119, No.9)  Beethoven

which two pieces do you feel would be the most impressive, yet still contrast in style.

also, is CPE Bach baroque, like his father, or classical?

Three questions:

1. What academy?
2. What are you up against?
3. How much time do you have?

It can't be too tough if they only require two works.

Everything you have is classical or baroque though, that doesn't provide for much contrast. I say go with the Beethoven late-bagetelle and the baroque work you find most impressive.

I agree with pita bread.  I'd go for the Bagatelle and Solfegetto if you have that one well prepared.  It's even better is you use the left-hand version (it's possible to play the whole thing with the left hand and it's quite impressive if you can pull it off -- it's fine to play the original way as well...)

CPE Bach is considered to fall in between the Baroque and Classical eras.
