Link request -- "knowing" "mastering" literature
on: December 03, 2005, 05:45:46 PM
Anyone have a collection of links already?

Revisiting the idea
- be able to play the melody in any key, able to sing/hear lines
- ditto for the bassline
- know the chords, able to play in all keys, able to sing/hear
- technique of course, given
- basic notes and rhythm, then dynamics, artic., etc.   playing what is actually on the page, then any other nuances to add

Just thinking, mainly looking for someone's links

Okay, Bob.  I have more swimming around in some of my yet to be organized indexing folders... but here is what I can give you so far.  Stuff from Bernhard of course  ;).  I will come back as I organize more.

(Bob adds more, then decides to hoarde them all to himself...)

What does it mean to "know" a piece?

Bernhard says, Ralph Kirkpatrick pretty much answered this question in his preface to his edition of Scarlati sonatas for Schirmer. Have a look
