look at it this way...you probably don't have any credit card bills yet either, or diapers, or mortgage payments. as i see it, you have lots of opportunity to make some good decisions. your life is really built upon what you do between 17 and 23-24. my advice (if you want it) is to just have a good time (within reason), get more education, and don't tie yourself down to one person until you fully know who YOU are and what YOU want. i think at younger ages one is swayed to accomodate someone else too much, to their own detriment. be free to be yourself and enjoy it. then you have something to offer someone when the time is right.
maybe 40 is too long to wait, but my husband had a fully stocked kitchen. that sold me right there. i mean with a cuisinart on the counter, i thought 'this man can cook for himself sometimes.' he did cook when we dated, and of all the things that endeared me, it was his parsley hamburgers. chopped parsley, soy sauce, steak sauce, lemon juice, and hamburger grilled. he made up the recipie.
