Scriabin Poème 32/1 (live)
on: December 23, 2005, 08:14:57 PM
I've posted a 'studio' rec of this before, from May somewhere, this one's a live one from August. Enjoy.

(don't mind the somewhat strange bg noises)

Very nice, i dont know this composition, so am not qualified to say much. However i can smell the alcahol the womens porfume the cigar smell, and the night club, or classy bar in city thing, well thats what came to my mind, someone playing this in a very classy hotel or something. Acctually this could be playd in a very welthy persons mansion.

Listen to Sofronitsky and Horowitz. There's a lot of subtlety/delicacy that's missing, particularly from the opening.

Not being subtle enough is something many people have told me as critique  :P.... Are you just talking about playing softer?? Cause I quite like it rubato-wise, this is how I feel it should sound to me, so excuse me if I'm being stupid.

I have quite vulgar thoughts while playing this piece, which might explain some of the delicacy that is missing ;).

I'd get the Horowitz performance. It was recorded for CBS Masterworks Horowitz Recital disc, but it's now on Sony. It's one of his best performances and the perfect reference for learning the piece. If you listen to it, you'll understand the point about subtlety.

Sofronitsky's recording is good, too. But, Horowitz is my choice for this one.

Here is a link to the Horowitz recording. You can preview this poem, but keep in mind the sound quality of the online sample is really poor, so the dynamic range and so forth is not completely accurate.
