Just a follow-up on the performance for those who missed - The show was excellent, with the usual expected technical feats and a wide range of tone color. I think Hamelin has been misconstrued in the past as a dry performer, but I must tell these people to go to a recent live performance of him.
His encores included a song of Chopin transcribed by Liszt (I'm guessing it was 'My Joys') and a hilarious rendition of the Nokia ring tone, which he had dedicated to a 'special person in the audience, whoever he or she might be' (referring to the person whose cell went off during his Schubert). Anyone else able to make it?
