Unrealizable mouth gesture

When im in class practicing, my friend notices when i play i make these mouth gestures as if im talking and my parents did too at a spring concert my school had not too long ago that they have every year, but i  do not realize that i am doing that.Im guessing it is a way of expression while playing?

Do other ppl notice this too?

I know for a fact that Lang Lang does this from all the vids i have seen and so does Evgeny Kissin.

Have they tried to lip read you? I'm fascinated as to what you might be saying, if you are saying anything legible.

Do you think to yourself what you are going to play next during a piece, so you don't get to a point and forget what you should be playing and mess up? I realised I had to do that with Mozart, and I was constantly thinking to myself: "Ok, so that combination there, then that after it." Maybe you think these and your mouth almost
utters them, but not to the extent of you actually saying them.

I want to know what i might be saying myself , like you said if its something understandable.
I do think to myself what note that comes next and not to hit the wrong one,maybe thats what my lips are muttering,lol. I wonder maybe next time i can get a friend to secretlt video tape me and i can see this for myself.

Ppl noticed that when I was younger, and they said I just stopped doin that when I was around 12 years old... I mean from like 8 years old till like 12.

Put a paper between your lips if you get ashamed of yourself  . Its a classic way of getting childrens mouth shut from looking around with open mouth.

exactly the same with me, but with the violin.

I mean my mouth isnt fully open, my lips just tend to move as if im muttering something under my breath, that is what im told.Nothing drastic like a dropped jaw, i think i would notice that.

yea, i think i know what you mean. with my mouth closed, i used to move my lips as if i was chewing rather chewy piece of steak.

If you look at this video, you can see that this guy  moves his lips thru out the piece,it looks like he's talking but nothing's coming out. He's an adult and does this, i guess this i something that some ppl can't grow out of.Oh he plays Griegs Wedding Day at Troldhaugen.
