dear ahinton,

kinda reminds me of the bible verse 'pay unto cesar the things that a cesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.'  agreed about being too concerned - but then again there are students with 'bad checks.'  u can't exactly afford to take bad checks - but nowdays the bank fines take care of that problem.

maybe it's a convenience for some teachers to get paid in a certain way.  i think as long as u have a financial plan - ur ok.  it's just if u don't have one - then taxtime is fairly dreadful.  i started marking my calendar as to who came and what they paid me.  just initials and then the cash or check amount.  then, all i had to do was look at my calendar.

*i don't have a quote yet, but was thinking about the first lesson i had with my most recent teacher - and instead of being fearful of being taped - he SUGGESTED it.  'why don't you tape ur lessons...then u can remember the details later....'  i thought this was excellent advice and i knew he must be a good teacher as he was not trying to hide anything.

"You are born an artist or you are not. And you stay an artist, dear, even if your voice is less of a fireworks. The artist is always there."-Maria Callas

I broke my wrist and two of my fingers a while back, and went through a serious stage of depression because I thought everything I worked for *in terms of music* would be lost, and then I received a card in the mail from a friend, with the quote above, and i smiled...=]

ouch.  glad ur friend had the gumption to encourage instead of say 'oh, that's terrible.'  my leg is much better too.  everyone seemed not even to notice because i was intent on playing the piano again (and my family saw me with cast up on right side of bench for a while).  nothing can stop u unless ur die.  noone dies from a broken leg or wrist problem.  only from quitting or not thinking of how to recover the best way.  i put a lot of time and effort into the leg, and i'm sure you are ur wrist and fingers.
