Help w/ Alkan's op. 31, no. 3
on: August 30, 2006, 09:48:38 PM
After reading forum members discussions about how wonderfull but also how very difficult Alkan's piano music can be, I was intrigued to hear that he also wrote some easier music like his op. 31. I listen to them and found them throughly enjoyable, so I tackled & finish no. 1.
Now I'm starting no. 3 titled "Dans Le Genre Ancien" and I need help. Anybody willing to get me started. I've attached a pdf w/ the sheetmusic & an mp3. Thanks in advance. BTW, I've been playing for about 1 1/2 years.
Questions:
1) Fingering suggestions/which hand plays what?
2) I'm also learning Grieg's Arietta (op. 12/1), & it was suggested to learn the 3 voices seperately (the melody, bass & then to learn the 16th note broken chords accompanment (since both hands will be sharing these broken chords)...I maybe way off track hear but should I tackle this piece similarly. In other words, since the hands (I think) share the melody does it make sense to seperate the voices, assuming there are more than one voice. I admit I don't know how to tell.
3) "Mani o Ped" -what does this mean?
4) Any suggestion or remarks on how to learn this piece would be appreciated.
5) About what grade is this piece or any of the other pieces in this opus.
