Fixing Messy Pieces
on: December 31, 2006, 11:45:39 PM
Hey all
What's the best way to go about cleaning up a piece that you can play, but messily? I can play the first movement of the Pathétique sonata, but its messy in some places. The numerous groups of ascending chords are sometimes missed, and same with the hand crossing section. There are also a few places where I almost always double take when playing, even if I got it right the first time. What's the best way to get rid of these so that the piece (which I can play) will actually sound good?

Heh, yeah. I guess I was just looking for a different, easier answer. Nobody wants to hear that answer.
Thanks

It's hard, but it is possible...
Start very slowly and patiently watch everything you do to spot even the slightest mistake.
Then you have to play it while avoiding those mistakes over and over untill they disappear.
Always try to avoid them whenever possible, the more ou play without them the less they will appear in the future, sometimes you just have to play them again for 2 or 3 times before they come back to haunt you.
It takes time and an enormous amount of patience, but you will get there...

Well I guess this is also a good warning to just learn the piece without stupid, careless mistakes the first time around.
Thanks again.
