this is the most enjoyable thing i've read all morning. he looks a bit like a cyclist, too. you would have to taunt me with something like this. and, of course, the hands - they are beautiful. and - he's not bad looking. i liked what he had to say about richter - and not trying the piano out. although i think it is a bit brash sometimes if the piano is wierd. i think one should always work out these quirks ahead of time and not on the audience.
never realized the story behind the diabelli variations! will have to get his recording of this. and listen to more szymanowski (sp?). am not that familiar with his works.
i'm impressed piotr also plays the mozart and conducts at the same time.
interesting that you like to see your fingers reflected in the fallboard. 20 years ago i had to request a fallboard to come off for that very reason. i got very flustered by it. you have a kawaii grand, too? that is too much good luck for one person. i am waiting for a bosendorfer, petrov, steinway, or fazioli - in close to 7' size - in my dreams. anything larger and it's wasted on me. don't you think that larger pianos go out of tune much much faster, too?
ps i had a chance last year to get a grand - but i didn't want to be selfish. we have five people in the family and the couch was disintegrating before our eyes (a hole in it - that the little one kept sticking her finger in) as stuffing would come out and pile on the floor. so - we bought a black leather couch with cup holders. it's actually a set of recliners that hook together like a couch. we found them at chain-mar - the three seater - with fold down cup holder back in middle chair is really the most 'couch looking.' the other two recliners are separated by a thick pad and two cup holders - but there is no back behind them in the middle - so they look like recliners. it fills up the living room where i would put a grand.
