if there suddenly was no money, no oil, no groceries, no heat, no electricity? how long does a potatoe take to grow.
Longer than it took you to put an "e" on the end of one...
and would one die of hunger before it was no more than a baby. we must start growing potatoes inside the house right now, alistair.
And who owns the seed? What you forget here is that every stock, every seed, every person is caught up in the situation and nothing you or I or anyone else can do will change that. On top of that, you and I do not live together, so we'd have to grow separate potatoes - and why in the house?
if the stock market crashes at least we'll have our potatoes.
What any of us might have following a stock market crash will very largely depend upon the extent of that crash, both economically and geographically. The American market began to rally this afternoon (UK time); if the entire lot goes down in a much bigger way than ever happened in the late 1920s, just don't expect to think that you own - or have any automatic as-of-right stake in - anything thereafter - not even the nearest potato, child, husband, church until that market has repaired itself sufficiently (if ever it does). Whatever investments you may have in your portfolio, the fact remains that, as an American citizen, you have shares in your local area and your country because you live there and pay your taxes; paying your taxes means that you have bought shares in the setup, just like I have here (the only difference being that you and I have been forced by our respective tax authorities to buy them, rather than purchasing them as a matter of personal choice).
Anyway, whatever happens, we musicians will carry on regardless as long as we have breath to do so - because we have to...
Best,
Alistair
