suggestions for piano/cello duet
on: March 05, 2004, 02:06:41 AM
Hey there,
Does anyone know of any good pieces for cello and piano they would suggest for solo & ensemble? Cellist has been playing for 7 yrs and is in chamber orchestra. I've been playing the piano for 12 . please keep in mind we have to have the piece learned and perfected by mid-april.

My favorite cello/piano pieces are the cello sonata by Rachmaninoff, elegie, berceuse, and sicilienne by Faure. The cello sonata is pretty hard, especially the second movement. The rest are easy.

solo and ensemble is sort of like festival, where u play for judges and get scored. so in this case, it'd just be piano and cello.

What about Chopin's cello and piano Polonaise? I have actually never seen the music and have only heard it a handful of times, but it seemed hard and really impressive and catchy. It runs about 7 or 8 minutes if memory serves (and that's questionable).

Hi !
You can play Beethoven sonatas for cello and piano but they are technically and musically very difficult there is also a nice piece by Martinu > Variations on the slovaque theme for cello and piano

or if you aren't up for that challenge there is always the Gershwin Preludes which sound amazing I've got Yo Yo Ma's recording of them or Chopin's polonaise or sonata
