There are electric bikes that require no license as long as they can only go so fast, like under 30mph.
They only use electricity so if you live close enough to work, you can ride for whatever the bike price is plus electricity. I saw a hydrogen fuel cell one too. Looks like the bikes cost around $1,000 but the gas money saved could pay for that in a year or so.
I could see something like that being useful depending on your job. As long as you don't have to pedal and get sweaty. And then you're also exposed to the elements and possibly looking a little dorky depending on the situation -- suit and tie pedaling a bike along a busy highway.
Something still doesn't seem quite right. I was searching for the prices of replacement batteries. Never found it. Then I found that slick red hog.
