Horowitz - American Medley (Unknown Recording)

A few years ago I downloaded an mp3 of a live Horowitz recording where he played a medley of American patriotic tunes in typical Horowitz manner. The audience goes mad for it and it was one of my favourite iPod tracks.
The middle section is based on Yankee Doodle and from memory ends with the Star Spangled Banner.

Does anyone know of this recording? and more optimistically does anyone have a copy?

It's definitely not the Stars and Stripes.

It consists of the Star-Spangled Banner and Yankee Doodle and possibly O Beautiful for Spacious Skies. My knowledge of American National anthems isn't that good and it's been a few years since I heard it.

I downloaded it from the ill-fated WinMX programme if it's any clue.

Sounds to me like you've got a "Union  - Paraphrase de Concert" by Gottschalk, and if so, your pianist is not Horowitz.

Those old WinMX mp3s were sometimes inaccurately labelled, so it may not have been Horowitz, but it was a pretty good imitation if it wasn't.

I lost the original mp3 when my old PC crashed a couple of years ago. WinMX has since been shut down by a number of lawsuits.

I thought the Gottschalk was on the money from looking at the score, but I just had a listen to it on Naxos and it's a very different piece of music. Not bad though - Just wish he had made more of Yankee Doodle.
The 'Horowitz' recording does the Yankee Doodle bit as the middle section in that typical Stars And Stripes staccatissimo and surrounded by impossible sounding countermelodies (eg. 2m18s of S&S).

Sorry if the descriptions are on the vague side, but I can only go by recollection. I'm dying to hear this recording again. I just hope someone else has the same recording.

maybe gottschalk really was the recording, and you have become a better pianist and that didn't impress you as much

I can say without the slightest shadow of a doubt that it was not the Gottschalk.

Has anyone ever compiled a complete Horowitz discography?
Given the exuberance of the performance and the fact that the piece is in stereo, I would guess the performance is from 1949-1953, before his first withdrawal from the stage.
