I was listening to the 1968 Argerich/Abbado/LSO recording of Chopin concerto no. 1 and there was a jarring passage that sounds unfamiliar. In the development section, the 2-bar modulation into B major leading to the repeat of the ascending chromatic figurations, this part is played very prominently by the trumpet:

I swore I had never heard that before, so I dug out my other CDs. It turns out that the passage is there but on all other recordings it is played by the flute (rather mute); in fact I think there is no trumpet altogether in the orchestration. Does anyone have the full score of the concerto? Substituting instruments may be commonplace in baroque music, but seems a bit shady for 19th century work.
