Chopin concertos with str. quartet
on: March 31, 2004, 07:53:23 PM
Hi all,

Any opinions on the BIS disc with Fumiko Shiraga and the Yggdrasil Quartet? I can't believe it hasn't been recorded before. Mozart's own quartet arrangements of 413, 414 and 415 get aired so much, it's a wonder why Chopin's don't.

Has anyone played these works live or in rehearsal? If so, could you point me to where I might get performing scores?

Thanks.

well, although i haven't heard the recording you spoke of, i will speculate that the reason you wouldn't hear the chopin stuff as much as the mozart stuff would be because the romantic nature of chopin's music would require the full sound of an orchestra more so than the lighter music of mozart.
rach on!
