Piano + cello suggestion?

I'm looking for a nice, short & easy->intermediate piano-cello duo piece that I could play with a friend. Thinking along the lines of Schumann-Brahms, but but as long as it's a brilliant piece anything goes. Evening music.

I was gonna say the Mendelssohn songs without words, op.108 I think, which is gorgeous.

I was going to suggest the Debussy Cello Sonata, as it's a truly incredible piece and the piano part isn't overtly difficult, although the Cello part is nasty in some parts.  I'm not sure if your friend will be up to it, but definitely give it a look

Try fantasy pieces op. 73 by Schumann and Song without words op. 109 by Mendelssohn. These are wonderful pieces. Oh, and Fauré's Elegy.

You can try Chopin's Cello Sonata, which isn't that bad, except the writing for cello is just...hmm...'uncellistic'.

You can also try Popper's Hungarian Rhapsody, which is a brilliant piece.
or you can opt for The Swan by Saint-Saens. Overplayed, but never fails to amaze the crowd.

Where if you get that info? It's generally thought of as one of the most terrifying piano parts.  And the cello line is composed ideally for a cello.

Brahms wrote a couple cello sonatas.. Maybe take a look at the 1st movement of op. 38.  It would make great evening music, and it is a touch dark as well, which can be nice.

I just found it very, well, awkward for a cellist to play those passages. I really do love that piece, particularly the last movement, Scherzo, but it's just..awkward, It's probably just me, but my teacher thought so too.

William Henry Squire Tarantella op. 23 is also very nice, it's a fast piece, audience pleaser. And (how could I forget? ) Malinconia op. 20 by Jean Sibelius, one of my favorites

Tansman's Partita is a nice piece for this setting. Also, Britten's sonata for cello and piano is a good choice. Neither are easy, but both brilliant.
