Music storage systems

I'm constantly fighting with an inadequate music library system (currently plastic storage boxes with hinged lids, alpha order). I sort of have this dream of some day having beautiful, convenient wall of shelves with music (all sizes/shapes) in a logical, easily accessed order. Has anyone seen a commercial solution or designed/built a custom one that looks good and works? It would be great to see some examples.

I have one wall of books and recordings. I use 2 bookshelves, 1 CD shelf (looking similar to the bookshelf, only with smaller space between each row), and 1 CD tower (narrower in general) . My dream is to have an entire wall of CDs and an entire wall of books and some really nice stereo system by the time i retire

Back to reality... for now I arrange my CDs by time period, then Alphabetical order of the composer, then alphabetical order of the performer. I put all the complilations seperately by performer alphabetical order. Right now I don't seperate types of music and it's starting to be chaotic... Thinking to seperate out at least the piano music, but I just know it'll create more troubles!

I want a library like that. 


Music texts are arranged by subject matter: history, bios, composers, theory, etc.  Music scores are arranged first by genre, then alphabetically in each genre.  There are many exceptions to these.  A complete Mozart keyboard works box is acting as a bookstand for the vocal music section, etc.

My CD's are partly organized by instrumentation or composer or genre or a combination of the former.  Problem is I have many different CD racks of all different sizes and it is difficult to organize within them.

All of mine are a mess and i love the look of those rolling shelves.

If i was any good at D I Y, i would have a go myself, but regretfully that is not the case.
