Any suggestions for Licad recordings?
on: May 09, 2004, 11:50:48 AM
I've really enjoyed listening to the CD of Cecile Licad, and I don't remember seeing her mentioned in this forum. I think her playing is really awesome and wondered if anyone else was familiar with her, had seen her perform and/or could suggest other recordings that would be worth purchasing.

Thanks
S.  :)

She has a recording of Schumann that I like - Papillons, Carnival, and the Tocatta.

She plays a wonderful Mendelssohn G minor concerto, but I don't know if it's recorded.

Here is an interesting interview with her:

And here is her discography:

She has also recorded Gotschalk piano pieces for Naxos.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

Thank to all of you for your suggestions. I'm anxious to hear all of them. Bernhard, you must have remembered I'm the "Gottschalk freak", hehe. That's the CD I currently have with her playing for Naxos..."American Classics". It's absolutely unbelievable how fast she plays Le Banjo, I've always heard it fast...but she's like lightning. In fact Banjo, and The Union are 2 pieces I'm working on for the competition I'm preparing for, I've love both of those pieces, and think they way she interprets the middle, slower part of Bamboula is one of the most moving, beautiful parts I've ever heard. I've heard many different interpretations of Gottschalk, but think hers is one of if not the best by far. I didn't know she also did Schumann and Mendelssohn...anxious to hear them, and enjoyed the interview as well.

Thanks much,
S. :)

Licad's "Le Banjo" is (perhaps) the FASTEST ever recorded.  It's almost like a quasi etude.
